SMART. EASY. COOL.
HYDROCHILL®
Southwest Greens of Michigan is proud to develop and install synthetic turf that saves Detroit and all of Michigan families and businesses money and time — helping you to pay attention to the things that matter most. With our modern HydroChill® cooling technology, we have taken on the heat of the summer in a clever and easy way. A simple add-on to the turf’s filling supplies a typical cooling range of 30-50 degrees and works automatically when wet by irrigation, rainfall, and dew.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
EVAPORATIVE COOLING TECHNOLOGY
Perspiration is a natural cause of thermoregulation called evaporative cooling. Evaporation of wetness from the skin’s surface has a cooling effect. In the same way, HydroChill® has shown to cool artificial putting surfaces through the same process. As the turf surface is heated up by solar radiation, water stored in the HydroChill® turf is let go. Evaporating water eliminates heat, leaving a cooler, more pleasant green for the players.
- HydroChill® uses moisture to create a cooling effect. Rainfall, dew, and irrigation should help keep your lawn cool for days, contingent on local weather conditions.
- HydroChill® can be integrated into almost any Southwest Greens' infilled lawn systems.
- HydroChill® will not alter the stability or warranty of Southwest Greens’ products.
- HydroChill® is UV-resistant and should be re-treated every two years for max performance.
WHEN IS IT MOST EFFECTIVE?
Ambient temperature outside does not necessarily determine surface temperature. Other elements determine an object’s surface temperature, like cloud cover, wind, the sun’s angle, and other elements.
HydroChill® gives you maximum benefit when the sun is nearest the Earth, as shown in the solar radiation calendar. In the summer season in Detroit and all of Michigan, the sun rests overhead, causing surfaces to soak up more energy, resulting in higher temperatures. The rotation of the Earth is also responsible for hourly variations in the sun’s light therefore making HydroChill® most efficient during the hotter part of a clear day when needed most.
